Beach couple to be honored in NYC for philanthropy

Macon and Joan Brock, a Virginia Beach couple who have given more than $45 million to a variety of charitable causes, have been named the 2015 Outstanding Philanthropists by the Association of Fundraising Professionals.

The Brocks will receive their award at the second annual National Philanthropy Day Honors event on Nov. 12 in New York City. The award honors an individual with a proven record of exceptional generosity who demonstrates outstanding civic and charitable responsibility through direct financial support.

In an announcement, the Association of Fundraising Professionals said the Brock’s philanthropic support involves numerous organizations, especially those focusing on education, social action, the arts and the environment. Charities they have supported include the Chesapeake Bay Foundation, Randolph Macon College, Virginia Wesleyan College, Longwood University, Access College Foundation, Eastern Virginia Medical School and the United Way.
